Cam-a-thon Dance Marathon

What is Cam-A-Thon?

Cam-A-Thon is a 12 hour dance marathon founded to honor the memory of fellow Downingtown student Cameron Evans who passed away after a brief race with leukemia. It supports the Cure4Cam Childhood Cancer Foundation founded in his name.

Students of the Downingtown STEM Academy started the Cam-a-thon dance marathon in 2014 and, with the addition of some students from Downingtown East and Downingtown West, have been dancing 12 hours each year since then. In 2014, there were about 80 participants…in 2018, over 800 danced. This “fun”draising event is open to all Downingtown high school students.

Their motto: “One day we will dance in celebration, but until then, we will dance for a cure.”

The event features a 12 hour dance floor with a DJ, Zumba, karaoke, and lip sync battles. In addition to dancing, participants may bounce, toss, kick, and catch their way through the night via games and mini tournaments as well as make tied-fleece blankets for children with cancer and (for those who are 18) get “swabbed” to join the national bone marrow registry.
